My Heart Sings

My Heart Sings may have easily been entitled The Take Five Sessions, Volume II.  It is Bliss Tavern Music’s second exploration of Betty Johnson’s classic sound of the late 1950s and early 1960s.  She puts the best of her abilities behind the best of American popular song.  Rodgers and Hart’s “My Heart Stood Still,” Lerner and Loewe’s “I’ve Grown Accustomed to His Face,” and Cole Porter’s “So in Love” swell with new spirit in Betty’s care.

Betty always loved the standards, and when she had the opportunity to perform them with the Metropolitan Jazz Quartet way back when, she felt heaven-blessed.  “Throughout my early career, recording companies were choosing what songs I would sing,” Johnson has said.  “These are songs I wish I could have sung [more of] all those years ago.”

Fortunately, Betty did have the opportunity to interpret these standards forty years ago.  The performances melt your heart, your resistance.
